Prevention vs. Treatment
We have mentioned before that there is no shortage of prescription drugs that treat diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, and hypertension. Our goal is to prevent these diseases before they start and to reduce and reverse them once they are started.
Dr. Movement’s approach to this goal is based on addressing and improving six dimensions of lifestyle including Nutrition and diet, movement and activity, sleep, stress management, personal relationships and the avoidance of excessive use of risky substances including smoking and alcohol.
We address nutritional and activity levels by implementing a Nutrition and activity questionnaire into the initial visit of each patient that enters the clinic. This information is used to assist the patients eating habits and offer solutions and options to improve diet. The Dr. Movement diet is high in plant-based foods that are rich in fiber and nutrients. 50% of the diet is made up of fruits and vegetables and limits highly processed foods.
As you would guess Dr. Movement is a big advocate for movement and activity. We think that the word “exercise” can be a bit scary so we focus on finding our patient’s purpose in life and use that as a motivator for movement. Movement does not have to be in a gym or on a treadmill for endless minutes. Instead, we match movement with your passions such as gardening, a brisk walk in the morning’s fresh air or being able to play with your grandkids.
